It’s a super difficult series of puzzles posted to 4-chan and twitter roughly once every year recruiting “intelligent individuals” to solve it signed by something named 3301. The clues for the various puzzles were scattered throughout the world, leading many to believe that the work couldn’t have come from one person, but rather a some kind of government agency. No one knows quite who or what organization though, leading to rampant internet speculation.
